Margaret Higgins Sanger, born September 14, 1879, died September 6, 1966, was an American nurse, sex educator, author and activist, who broke new ground for women's reproductive rights. In 1916, Sanger started the first US birth control clinic and was one of the founders of the organization Planned Parenthood. During her life, Sanger was regularly arrested for her work on sexual rights during a time when it was illegal to talk publicly about contraception.
