Description
Fatima after: Fatima Mernissi, born 1940 in Fès, died November 30, 2015 in Rabat, was a Moroccan sociologist, historian and feminist. Mernissi, who was a Muslim, was much engaged in the role of woman in relation to Islam. Through analyzes of Islam's historical development and its modern forms, she assumed a critical position for women being assigned a subordinate role in Muslim communities, with no grounds in Islamic religious texts, including the Quran. Her autobiography Dreams of Freedom are about growing up in a harem in Morocco.
