Calla Curman was the initiator of the founding of the New Idun Women's Society in 1885. The New Idun Society had the male equivalent of the Society Idun as its role model. In her motivation for the founding of New Idun, Calla Curman wrote: "Why shouldn't women, regardless of our different political and religious views, be able to gather for mutual exchange of thoughts in common intellectual, artistic and literary interests?".
Calla Curman was also involved in a number of other issues. Among other things, she was a member of the Board of Directors of 1874, founded the Handwork friends, member of the board of Stockholm's reading room at Kungsholmen 1898-1900, member of the Board of the Society for Unison Song 1908-1915, and sat in the Stockholm Local Council for the Swedish Society for Conservation of Swedish Conservation in Abroad 1918-1924. For the latter association she became an honorary member in 1928.
She was also a skilled pianist and in 1897, published her own booklet of compositions took part in signing a declaration for founding Mother's Day in 1919. She was awarded the Illi Quorum and the Handwork Friends' Medal.
