Alva Myrdal, born 1902 died 1986. Alva was a Swedish Social Democratic politician and diplomat who was strongly involved in the debate on women's liberation. She wanted to create a society where women could participate on equal terms in working life and where men would participate in homework. She also took a stand against nuclear power and was a champion of nuclear disarmament. After World War II, she became increasingly involved in international affairs and her commitment to peace led to her being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1982.
